Çekereksu Caravanserai

Standing on the Yozgat–Kadışehri road at the point where the villages of Kesikköprü and Örencik meet, the Çekereksu Caravanserai was commissioned in 1239–1240 by Mahperi Hatun, the Seljuk queen mother — wife of Sultan Alaeddin Kayqubad I and mother of Sultan Kayhusraw II. Mahperi Hatun was one of the most influential female patrons of her era, also known as the founder of the Karatay Han on the Kayseri–Sivas road and the Hunad Hatun complex in Kayseri; the Çekereksu Caravanserai forms part of this same wide network of Seljuk charitable foundations, situated in the Yozgat region. Oriented north–south, the caravanserai was built using rubble stone masonry bound with lime mortar, and its surviving roof structure is barrel-vaulted. The building comprises two main sections: a wider northern block, and side wings made up of stone-roofed rooms arranged east–west. The south wing holds three vaulted chambers, also aligned north–south. Now largely in ruins, the caravanserai remains an important stop for those tracing the 13th-century Anatolian Seljuk caravan road network through the Yozgat region; together with the Çınçınlı Sultan Han in nearby Saraykent — founded by the same patron — it sheds light on the area's Seljuk-era trade and transportation history.
