Cumhuriyet Primary School (Bozok University Rectorate Building)

0.0 · 0 reviews
The Cumhuriyet Primary School building was registered as a protected cultural asset in 1977 by the (then) Supreme Council for Immovable Antiquities and Monuments. Used as a primary school from its construction until 2006, the building has served as the rectorate of Bozok University since 2007. Located in the Medrese neighborhood, just off the Ankara–Sivas highway, it stands on a spacious plot as a rectangular, two-storey structure (excluding the basement), measuring roughly 16 to 20 meters by 7 to 20 meters. The building is described as an example of the so-called "Kemalist style" associated with architecture of the Atatürk era. According to available records, the building was commissioned in 1927 by then-Governor of Yozgat Ali Rıza Bey, built with the involvement of contractor Şükrü Adıvallı and Nihat Çapan, and opened for education on October 29, 1930. From ground level up, the facade is coated in thick plaster painted yellow, scored to resemble parallel courses of large cut stone; the building is constructed throughout from a yellowish, easily worked cut stone resembling kefeki limestone. Symbolizing the early Republic's nationwide school-building campaign, the structure today continues that educational legacy as the administrative heart of Yozgat's only university.
