Midiliç Cheese

Story
Midiliç Peyniri is a distinctive cheese produced in Aydıngün village, part of Yerköy district in Yozgat, also known as "Midiliç Çömlek Peyniri" for the earthenware pots it is traditionally aged in. As its name suggests, it is matured in clay vessels, and compared to other regional cheeses it stands out for being roughly twice as fatty and for its high probiotic content. Aydıngün village's livestock-based way of life and the region's natural pasture vegetation are the key factors that shape the cheese's distinctive aroma and texture. Produced in limited quantities using traditional methods at village dairies, midiliç peyniri is considered an essential part of breakfast tables in and around Yerköy, and is typically sold at local and village markets. Notable for its dense texture and rich flavor, this cheese is an important example of Yozgat's diverse regional dairy heritage and is highly recommended for anyone visiting the area. The clay-pot aging process gives the cheese both a long shelf life and a flavor that deepens over time, which is why villagers in Aydıngün often prefer to store it and save it for consumption during the winter months.
