Secondary School (Former Courthouse)

0.0 · 0 reviews
The Akdağmadeni Secondary School building, located on Sayfiye Street in the Çamlık neighborhood, is a single-storey, rectangular, entirely stone-clad structure running north–south. Its entrance is recessed behind an iwan-like porch flanked by two columns supporting pointed and depressed arches. A marble plaque set into the front facade bears the courthouse emblem along with the inscription "Adliye Sarayı" ("Palace of Justice"), confirming the building's original function as the district courthouse. The east facade is plain, while the west facade projects outward with two rooms. Windows are depressed-arched with protruding keystones, and the overhang eaves carry a hipped, tile-covered roof. A depressed-arch entrance door leads into a large hall from which the surrounding classrooms are reached. Having changed function from courthouse to school over time, the building today houses Akdağmadeni's Public Education Center and an adjoining school facility. With its finely cut stone masonry and formal facade typical of official buildings from the late Ottoman to early Republican transition, it remains one of the surviving public architecture examples of that period in the district.
