Bilal Şahin Complex

Yozgat's Bilal Şahin Complex is a modern religious and social compound located in the Kent Park area of the Bilal Şahin neighborhood, central Yozgat. Construction began on August 23, 2010, funded by businessman Bilal Şahin, and was completed within three years, opening on July 5, 2013. Spread across an extensive site, the complex combines multiple functions: the Yozgat Mufti's Office service building, a Qur'an memorization course (Hafız Kuran Kursu) with capacity for 100 students, the 1,500-capacity Bilal Şahin Mosque, a Directorate of Religious Affairs publications outlet, a reading hall and cultural center building, the complex's ablution fountain (şadırvan), the Bilal Şahin Guesthouse and staff housing under the Mufti's Office, the Naciye Afet Şahin Qur'an Course building, and a clock tower. Reinterpreting the classical Ottoman külliye tradition — which brought together worship, education, lodging, and social services within a single complex — in a contemporary architectural idiom, the Bilal Şahin Complex is one of Yozgat's largest multi-functional religious compounds, combining worship with religious education and social services. With its twin-minaret, large-domed mosque dominating the city's contemporary skyline, the complex stands as one of the most impressive examples of 21st-century religious architecture in Yozgat; having been realized through the individual philanthropic initiative of a local businessman also makes it a notable case study in the city's modern culture of charitable endowment.
