Hacı Ozan House

Hacı Ozan House, located in Yozgat's central Nohutlu neighborhood, comprises a basement, ground floor, and one upper floor. Still occupied as a private residence by the heirs of its original owners, the house is considered a rare surviving example of late Ottoman domestic architecture in Yozgat. Set within a large garden with two entrance gates — one on the west side, one on the south — the house has undergone some alterations over time but remains, on the whole, very well preserved, retaining unusually intact original decorative details. An inscription on the western garden gate records the date 1317 in the Islamic calendar (1899–1900 CE). The building was constructed using timber-frame walls infilled with adobe brick. The centers of both the first- and second-floor front facades feature balconies with wooden-framed, round-arched windows, topped by a pediment. The basement entrance doorway is framed in cut yellow stone; the balcony has an iron railing, the roof eaves are finished in wooden boarding, and the wall surfaces are lime-plastered. The windows carry decorative bands above and below, and the wooden doors are crowned with round arches. The tent-shaped roof is covered in traditional Turkish tile. The ceilings throughout the house are entirely finished in decorative woodwork, and the rooms still contain period-appropriate wooden cabinets and şerbetlik (built-in cupboards for serving sherbet), typical of traditional Ottoman interiors. Its continued private ownership and residential use make Hacı Ozan House one of the few historic mansions in Yozgat to have survived with its original function intact.
