Nakipzade Mosque

Nakipzade Mosque stands in Yozgat's central Köseoğlu neighborhood. An inscription above its entrance dates the mosque to the Islamic year 1260 (1844 CE), commissioned together with an adjoining madrasa by Hoşyar Kadın, a consort of Sultan Mahmud II. The inscription indicates that Hoşyar Kadın — who appears in some records as the adoptive daughter of Beyhan Sultan and daughter of Mihrimah Sultan — was in fact the adoptive mother of Beyhan Sultan and the birth mother of Mihrimah Sultan, and that she built this foundation in memory of her two daughters, both of whom predeceased her; the inscription's calligrapher was a man named Ziya. Beyond the inscription, the mosque has two surviving endowment deeds (vakfiye): the first, dated before September 21, 1852, records a donation of 12,000 kuruş toward the mosque's maintenance and repair costs. The second, dated April 22, 1914, records an annual income of 500 kuruş donated by Mustafa Mahzar Bey, an agricultural inspector from Sivas residing in Yozgat's Tekke neighborhood, stipulating that 200 kuruş go toward mosque repairs and 30 kuruş toward maintaining the water channels. The prayer hall is rectangular (elongated) with a flat ceiling; on the south axis stands a pentagonal, colored-marble mihrab beside an original latticework-carved wooden minbar. On the east wall, a round-arched preacher's pulpit — reached by stepping through the window recess, framed with wooden rails and stone moldings — stands out. To the north is a two-storey entrance porch with three round arches on four columns, and at the southwest corner rises a ringed, molded minaret with a balcony. Decoratively, the minbar's latticework railings and the cypress-motif ornament around the preacher's pulpit are especially notable.
