Salim Korkmaz Mansion

The Salim Korkmaz Mansion stands within a large garden in Yozgat's central Aşağınohutlu neighborhood. An entrance opens onto Başçavuş Street on the north side of the garden; stone corbels visible along the building's north facade suggest that the current garden entrance was later shifted inward from its original position. West of an entrance hall notable for its original stone paving, the mansion rises as ground-plus-one floor; owing to the sloping terrain, the east–west facade appears single-storey while the perpendicular facade reveals two full floors. The ground floor is built of cut stone, the upper floor of timber framing, with lime-plastered walls throughout. The roof is a hipped timber structure covered in Marseille-style tile, with wooden-clad eaves. Entrances open on both the south and east facades; the center of the south facade is recessed, giving the elevation a more dynamic profile. The mansion belonged to Salim Korkmaz, a former mayor of Yozgat, linking the building directly to the city's recent administrative history — indeed, the historic horse-drawn carriage known as "Aynalı Körük" (Mirrored Bellows), donated by Korkmaz and now displayed at the Yozgat Museum, is a piece of the mansion's family legacy that made its way into the city's public collection. With its floor plan cleverly adapted to the sloping site and its original stone-paved entrance hall, the mansion offers a characteristic example of late Ottoman residential architecture in Yozgat, shaped by local materials and topography alike.
