Şeyh Hacı Ahmet Efendi Mosque

Şeyh Hacı Ahmet Efendi Mosque stands in the Taşköprü neighborhood of Yozgat's central district. It was built in 1859 by Şeyh Hacı Ahmet Efendi himself, who also composed its dedicatory inscription under the pen name "Terki." The prayer hall is rectangular (elongated) with a flat ceiling; a half-cylindrical mihrab sits on the south axis beside a wooden minbar with latticework-carved railings. The minbar, mihrab, and surrounding woodwork were renewed during a restoration in the 1990s. To the north, a gallery projects outward, its north wall containing six small halvet cells (private niches for individual devotion). The prayer hall has two doors, east and west: the eastern door opens onto the space in front of the mausoleum, while the round-arched northwestern door leads into the hall itself. Inside, the coffered ceiling and upper lattice screens, along with the wooden mihrab pediment, are notable for carrying Surah al-Ikhlas written by Abdülkadir el-Şükri, one of the Ottoman palace's calligraphers, while the space above the windows carries two horizontal bands of the Ninety-Nine Names of God (Esmâ-ül Hüsnâ) and Surah al-Fath. The polygonal-bodied minaret at the northwest corner, on a square base, was built in 1957. A single-fronted fountain was added to the mosque's southwest exterior corner. Built of yellow cut stone and entered through a round-arched door, the square-planned, domed mausoleum holds the graves of Şeyh Hacı Ahmet Efendi together with two of his sons and a grandson.
