Güzelli Village Caves

0.0 · 0 reviews
Güzelli Village Caves form a natural and archaeologically significant cave complex located at Tepebaşı, on a limestone hill on the left side as one enters Güzelli village from Saatli village, in Yozgat's Şefaatli district. The caves sit about 22 kilometers from the Şefaatli district center. The main entrance, on the hill's southern slope, sits roughly 1.60 meters above ground level and consists of a doorway just wide enough for one person to pass through at a time; the arched opening, fronted by three steps, leads into an entrance chamber, a spacious hall extending eastward, and two smaller rooms connected to it. The eastern and southern slopes of the hill contain numerous natural caves of varying sizes, while trough-shaped rock carvings found in the upper sections point to a long history of settlement activity across the hill. With largely unexplored archaeological potential and striking natural formations, the site is one of Yozgat's lesser-known historical-natural attractions, appealing especially to curious travelers. Access is via village roads from the Şefaatli district center, and bringing a local guide is recommended to better appreciate the historical layers of the caves.
