Western Yozgat Tour: Bridges and Mosques from Yerköy to Boğazlıyan

The west of Yozgat brings together three districts that stay somewhat in the shadow of the center but have their own coherent story: Yerköy's Republican-era railway heritage, Şefaatli's bridges and caves, and Boğazlıyan's single but striking bridge. This is a fully car-based route, covering a total of about 120 km between stops. Head west from the center and first go to the farthest point of Yerköy, Tuzla Bridge — 25 km from the district center, a bit off the beaten path but a solid bridge showcasing pre-Republican stonework. From there, head back into Yerköy's center and visit Saray Çapanoğlu Mosque; one of the Çapanoğlu family's most important works outside the Yozgat center, and although less known than the mosque in the city center, its architectural details are crafted with the same mastery. From Yerköy, head south to Şefaatli — about a 40-minute drive. Near the district center, tour Koşa Bridge and the adjacent Train Station Building together; both carry traces of Yozgat's railway and transportation history, and the station building still preserves its original facade. From here, head to Tokmak Hasan Paşa Mosque at the other end of the district for a short break, then go south to explore the Güzelli Village Caves — carved into a rocky hillside within the village, these caves don't require an official guide, but bringing a flashlight helps, and you may need to duck a bit at the entrance. Close out the day by turning north from Şefaatli to Karabıyık Bridge in Boğazlıyan; since it's on your way back to the center, it makes an ideal final stop — after a short photo break, you'll reach Yozgat center in about an hour. This route is more enjoyable in spring and autumn — finding shade in the midday summer heat can be difficult outside of the cave visit. If you set out around 8:30 AM, you'll comfortably return to the center by early evening; since there aren't many options besides a few village restaurants in Şefaatli and Yerköy along the way, we recommend bringing your lunch with you or stopping to eat in Yerköy's center. Since western Yozgat is one of the least-known corners of the province, your chances of encountering crowds or tourist traffic on this route are low — what awaits you is a quiet, authentic trip where you'll mostly witness the daily life of local residents. Before entering the Güzelli Village Caves, it's a good idea to let someone in the village know, and since some passages are narrow, we recommend going in a group of at least two rather than alone. Since the road to Tuzla Bridge turns to dirt in its final kilometers, on rainy days it may be safer to skip this section and start directly from Yerköy center instead.
